Weaving a Celebration of Life

Basket Weaving using the twining techniques is one of the worlds oldest crafts, with evidence suggesting it predates pottery and textiles. As civilisations advanced so did the Art of Basketry.

I have been pondering my journey with Basketry and the

natural connection with indigenous culture.

Basketry to the Yolnu people of Arnhem land Australia is a way of connection to the land as a celebration of Life. The connectness to the land is reciprocal.

They love the land and it loves them

They care for the land and it cares for them

They honour the land and it honours them

In this celebration they know a seamless integration

of who they are as the one living field of Aliveness.

When I teach you how to weave a basket using the twining technique that has been passed down through many cultures across the globe you have an opportunity to weave into the same global consciousness of Interconnectednes.

I will teach you to weave a basket and

the basket may surprise you with what it teaches you.

The basket in this video above is woven from fibres from the land where I live at Governors Bay New Zealand -

These fibres are -

Cabbage Tree /Ti Kouka - NZ native

Junjus Reeds - found on all continents

Red Hot Poker - African native

Cabbage Palm - Australian native
